Ergon is in stealth, so this posting describes the shape of the work rather than the thing being built. That is not coyness for its own sake: on the first call we tell you exactly what it is, including what already runs and what does not, before you spend any real time on us.
Our whole position rests on the difference between something that sounds right and something that has been shown to be right. The machinery that does the showing already exists in outline: executing untrusted code in a box, measuring what came out, and reporting it as structured fact rather than as prose somebody has to interpret. It needs a second pair of hands to take it from working to dependable, and to own large parts of it outright.
What you will do
- Build sandboxed execution: run code, tests, builds and measurements safely and repeatably
- Turn messy tool output into structured results that a program can act on without guessing
- Keep the cost of checking low enough that checking happens by default
- Attack nondeterminism directly, because a flaky result is worse than no result
- Own the trail from a conclusion back to whatever produced it
What we are looking for
- Background in testing infrastructure, build systems, static analysis, or developer tooling
- You have opinions about flaky tests that you can defend with specifics
- Comfort with sandboxing, process isolation, and the security thinking that executing untrusted code demands
- Interest in making proof cheaper than argument
Useful, not required
- Compilers, language servers, or program analysis
- Benchmark design, and an understanding of why most benchmarks are wrong
- Container and VM isolation at the level where you have had to debug it
How we hire
- 01A 45-minute call with the CTO. We tell you what we are building.
- 02A code reading session. We hand you part of what already runs and you tell us what worries you about it.
- 03A two-hour take-home, or a walkthrough of comparable work you already own. Your choice.
- 04A conversation with the engineer whose area this is, about how you would split it.
- 05References, then an offer.
